Intrathecal ziconotide in the treatment of refractory pain in patients with cancer or AIDS: a randomized controlled trial

Article Abstract:

The drug ziconotide may be effective for treating chronic pain in cancer patients and AIDS patients, according to a study of 111 patients. This drug is a calcium channel blocker that can block the transmission of pain signals. However, it must be injected into the spinal column for maximum effectiveness. Fifty-three percent of the patients who took it experience moderate or complete pain relief, compared to 17% of those who took a placebo, or inactive substance.

Efficacy and safety of statin therapy in children with familial hypercholesterolemia

Article Abstract:

The children with hypercholesterolemia have endothelial dysfunction with increased carotid intima-media thickness (IMA), which cause premature atherosclerotic disease, hence studies were conducted to check the efficacy as well as safety of statin therapy in such children. It was found that two years of pravastatin therapy caused a significant amount of reduction of carotid atherosclerosis in children with no adverse effects on growth.

Efficacy of 3 Commonly Used Hearing Aid Circuits: A Crossover Trial

Article Abstract:

The linear peak clipper (PC), compression limiter (CL), and wide dynamic range compressor (WDRC) hearing aid circuits all seem to provide adequate hearing in quiet and noisy environments, according to a study of 360 patients. The CL and WDRC circuits were better than the PC circuit, but all circuits were better than hearing without a hearing aid.
