Is audit a task for nurses?

Article Abstract:

An audit by group of nurses working in the residential department of a mental health hospital in Northumberland, England, led to them establishing a plan of auditing. The auditing schedule has been in action for three years and is seen as normal clinical practice. The quality of patient care has been gradually improving. The nurses were obliged to change the questions for patients, in their first audit, because they were too long and complicated. The staff approved of their questionnaires and replies have risen by 35%. A quality coordinator helped to devise and run the audit.

Out with the old

Article Abstract:

The provision of care and support for mental health patients in the UK is underfunded, under researched and often fails to resolve issues which are the underlying cause of illness. Psychosis patients should be encouraged to take responsibility for their illness through self awareness and a desire to get better. Talking to other people who have suffered similar experiences and illness is an ideal starting point for mentally ill patients to begin the road to recovery. Developing a more positive public opinion of mental health would also help those seeking to overcome psychosis.
