Metronidazole treatment of women with a positive fetal fibronectin test result

Article Abstract:

Metronidazole may lower the risk of premature birth in pregnant women with a vaginal infection and excessive fetal fibronectin levels in cervical fluid. Fetal fibronectin in cervical fluid is believed to be caused by a uterine infection that damages the placenta, allowing fetal fibronectin to leak into the vagina.
