Is everybody happy...?

Article Abstract:

Experts reportedly believe that only 10-20% of Americans are happy, but Myers and Deiner report in the Sept-Oct 1997 issue of The Futurist magazine that actually most people are happy. According to national surveys, 60% of people say that they are 'pretty happy,' 30% are 'very happy' and only 10% indicate that they are 'not too happy.' Happiness is mostly self-created and self-selected. Happy people like themselves, enjoy their work, and are not self-centered. In the same issue of the Futurist, Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi offers suggestions for increasing happiness and creativity.

What everybody knows..

Article Abstract:

Integrated delivery systems were not necessarily an outgrowth of managed care. Since the middle of the 19th century, employers have created healthcare delivery systems for specific groups such as employees and migrant workers. Religious groups also built hospitals to improve access to care. However, many managed care organizations of the 1990's were formed to share profits with stockholders or provide employers with discounted services.

Yes, we have no bananas..

Article Abstract:

Hospital and health care system administrators need to realize that putting their staffs under increasing pressure will result in lower productivity and more mistakes. The desires to increase market share and profits will invariably create disregard for honesty and integrity. Managed care administrators should have mind-sets flexible enough to acknowledge the value of appropriately rewarding well-trained staffs.
