Division of labor should be economically organized, with the properly skilled people installed in corresponding jobs. Interpersonal issues form backdrop to discussions

Article Abstract:

Clinical discussions in the health care setting often require critical balance between two distinct dimensions. Representational negotiations involve the affect of health care decisions on colleagues, patients, peer groups and departments. Symbolic negotiations involve the symbolic meanings and stereotypical associations with certain groups of people. A keen understanding of both dynamics will enhance negotiations in the health care setting.

Facing objections? Try using some 'negotiation jujitsu.' (excerpt from Renegotiating Health Care: Resolving Conflict to Build Collaboration)

Article Abstract:

Heated arguments can be defused by active listening, or 'negotiation jujitsu,' an alternative to angry reaction. The response calls for careful, patient listening and control of the emotions, comparable to absorbing a blow to slow it down. The procedure may be repeated until the attacker realizes that mutual benefit will result from a discussion of the problem.
