It's so easy to get into hot water

Article Abstract:

The treatment of a child and her burns, which resulted from hot water, at the burns unit of Sheffield, United Kingdom's Northern General Hospital is described. At the hospital, nurse Sue Collier is assigned to play with the children. She does not wear a uniform or hospital greens, which children come to associate with needles, dressings and other uncomfortable or painful treatments. A playroom where no treatment whatsoever is given is provided so children feel they have a safe place from needles and treatments and can, therefore, play without fear.

Laxatives and rectal preparations

Article Abstract:

Nurse prescribers require knowledge of drugs that have an effect on the digestive tract. Drugs to treat constipation are divided into four groups, stimulant laxatives, faecal softners, osmotic laxatives and bulk-forming drugs. Nurses also need to consider several issues before prescribing laxatives, including the age of the patient, medical conditions, pregnancy, possible side effects and whether the patient has already tried self-medication.
