Joint commission flap obscures its quality mission

Article Abstract:

The nonprofit Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organization has recently been criticized by the American Hospital Assn (AHA), and although the AHA and the American Medical Assn (AMA) may have reason to disagree on some issues, the public way in which it aired its grievances was not appropriate. Instead, the discussions should remain among the Board of Commissioners and the AMA should continue to support the Joint Commission.

County, state medical societies shouldn't be forgotten

Article Abstract:

The American Medical Assn (AMA) is re-evaluating its representation, which is suppose to reflect all segments of the medical care industry. The AMA's Federation group will study the issue and make recommendations that will better serve the physician community. State and county medical societies' representation will most likely be decreased as more representation from managed care organizations and medical specialties is added.
