Judging competence

Article Abstract:

National nursing standards will be enacted beginning in November of 2003, applying to midwives as well. These standards will include defining a lack of competence and provide employers with procedures to implement dismissal of incompetent personnel.

Few nurses were contacted by the Nursing and Midwifery Council in the consultation to create new regulations for nursing. Most nurses surveyed by Nursing Times were unaware of the proposed new regulations.
