Kidney disease and cardiovascular risk

Article Abstract:

Kidney failure and chronic kidney disease (CKD) are connected with accelerated cardiovascular disease, apparently owing to a high burden of traditional vascular risk factors and probably nontraditional risk factors such as inflammation, and chronic volume overload. Epidemiology and pathophysiology of cardiovascular disease in CKD are reviewed and clinical and public health implications of the present knowledge are discussed.

Diagnosis of latent tuberculosis infection

Article Abstract:

The declining rates of tuberculosis (TB) since the year 1993 and the latest level of control represent a remarkable achievement in public health and foster optimism that the United States could reach the goal of eliminating TB by 2010. However, the elimination of TB in the United States is linked to the success of TB control around the world as a result of the global burden of TB, intercontinental travel and immigration.
