Taking aim at HIV replication

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns HIV or human immunodeficiency virus replication, and drugs to target the cells which host the virus. Research suggests viral replication may be controlled through mycophenolic acid, a selective inhibitor of CD 4 lymphocytes.

Long-term follow-up studies confirm the stability of the latent reservoir for HIV-1 in resting CD4+ T cells

Article Abstract:

The treatment of HIV-1 infection with highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) can reduce plasma levels of the virus to below the limit of detection. Even in patients receiving HAART, latent HIV-1 persists in resting memory of CD4+ T cells.

Latent infection of CD4(super.+) T cells provides a mechanism for lifelong persistence of HIV-1, even in patients on effective combination therapy

Article Abstract:

Latent infection of CD4(super.+) T cells gives a mechanism for lifelong persistence of HIV-1. This happens even in patients on effective combination therapy. The decay rate of the latent reservoir of viruses in resting CD4(super.+) T cells in 34 treated adults whose plasma virus levels were undetectable.
