The American Medical Association revealed that an increasing number of reports disclosed that the quality, safety and efficacy of some herbal remedies that fall under the Dietary Supplement Health and Education Act, passed in 1994, are unacceptable. Sales of counterfeit herbal remedies and dietary supplements have prompted congressional scrutiny and calls for extra regulation or enforcement.
