Lecturers set to quit for high NHS pay

Article Abstract:

Nursing lecturers are considering quitting higher education for better-paid nurse consultant's posts in the NHS, according to their union. However, nurse academics are being forced to make hard choices because of their exclusion from the new Agenda for Change (AfC) pay system that is driving NHS salaries up at a faster rate than those in higher education.

The rise of the expert patient

Article Abstract:

Most nurses are familiar with the idea of creating 'partnership in care', but the white paper on community health services heralds an age of self-care and expert patient knowledge-concepts that profoundly affect the relationship between nurse and patient. Some key factors in helping to develop expert patients are highlighted.
