Left atrial radiofrequency ablation during mitral valve surgery for continuous atrial fibrillation

Article Abstract:

A study aims to determine whether intraoperative radiofrequency ablation (RFA) of the left atrium increases the long-term restoration of sinus rhythm and improves exercise capacity. RFA of the left atrium during mitral valve surgery for continuous atrial fibrillation significantly increases the rate of sinus rhythm restoration 1 year postoperatively, improving patient exercise capacity.

A 60-year-old woman with atrial fibrillation

Article Abstract:

The symptoms and treatment of atrial fibrillation are reviewed, based on the case of a 60-year-old woman. Atrial fibrillation occurs when part of the heart begins beating very rapidly. The danger is that this rapid beating can throw off blood clots that travel to the brain, causing a stroke. For this reason, many patients are treated with anticoagulant drugs.

Corticosteroids for the prevention of atrial fibrillation after cardiac surgery: A randomized controlled trial

Article Abstract:

A study was conducted to determine whether intravenous corticosteroid administration after cardiac surgery prevents atrial fibrillation (AF) after cardiac surgery. The observations suggested that intravenous hydrocortisone reduced the incidence of AF after cardiac surgery.
