Lessons from a pilot study on prescribing exercise

Article Abstract:

Recent research has looked at the effectiveness of programmes which involve GPs prescribing exercise in schemes involving local authority leisure services. The results of a pilot of a randomised controlled trial which was suspended after a short time were analysed, with particular attention being given to the lessons which can be learnt by other schemes now being developed across the UK. It is clear that prescribing exercise cannot be hailed as successful simply because it has received positive publicity, and there is need for further research in this area.

The exercise bug

Article Abstract:

Tips are offered on how to become consistent about doing exercises and how to find the right exercises, especially if exercise avoidance has been the norm. Once the right exercise is found, excuses not to workout usually disappear. Often having a partner increases the enjoyment and consistency.
