New York JUA requests 367% premium boost

Article Abstract:

New York State Joint Underwriting Assn., a medical malpractice underwriting association, requested a 367% premium increase due to increases in claims. Severity of claims has increased and costs are escalating faster than premiums have been rising. Most physicians are waiting for legislative proposals to be adopted to modify some of the costs of malpractice suits.

Hinckley verdict a fluke, Chicago attorney says

Article Abstract:

Barbara Weiner, a Chicago attorney, feels that there is no reason for state and federal laws to be changed as a result of the John W. Hinckley Jr. case. She points out that Mr. Hinckley would have been found guilty in almost all other places in the nation. The Hinckley case is looked at in perspective with other insanity defense cases.
