Liverpool's health at work strategy

Article Abstract:

Liverpool, UK, has a strategy for improving occupational health across the whole city. The strategy presents the needs and aims of different groups within industry, health care provision and the community as a whole. These groups include small and medium enterprises (SMEs), which often feel unable to address occupational health issues, voluntary organisations, and the primary health care service. Recommendations include the establishment of a health and safety club for SMEs, and training for primary health care workers in the recognition and prevention of occupational health problems.

Learning the ropes

Article Abstract:

The successful development of rope access working is attributed to its relative low cost, the development of a safe system and auditing practices, and its slow development to maturity before becoming more widely used. However, accidents have been caused by inexperience or by using an unsuitable system for the job. An overview of rope access working practice is given, along with details of the Industrial Rope Access Trade Association.
