Loss of tumor suppressor PTEN function increases B7-H1 expression and immunoresistance in glioma

Article Abstract:

The loss of phosphatase and tensin homolog (PTEN) and activation of the phosphatidylinositol-3-OH kinase (PI(3)K) pathway has increased the expression of the gene encoding immunosuppressive protein B7 homolog 1 (B7-H1) in human glioma. The results are relevant to cancers with PTEN loss or S6K1 activation and have defined an unrecognized mechanism that might have a role in cancer immunoresistance and immune escape.

SIK1 is a class II HDAC kinase that promotes survival of skeletal myocytes

Article Abstract:

A study to examine the impact of cAMP responsive element binding protein (CREB) during physical activity using mice was conducted. The results show that CREB brings in a moderation in the myocyte enhancer factor 2activity by inducing the salt inducible kinase 1 (SIK1) in other tissues of the body.

Inflammatory thoughts about glioma gene therapy

Article Abstract:

Gene therapy for glioma should be placed on hold until scientists can figure out why it causes inflammation. This therapy involves using adenoviral vectors to deliver the herpes simplex virus-1 thymidine kinase gene. It is possible that the viral vector is inflammatory.
