Vascular anatomy of the presacral space in unembalmed female cadavers

Article Abstract:

Unembalmed female cadavers were dissected to characterize the vascular anatomy of the female presacral space (PSS) and to correlate findings to the abdominal sacrocolpopexy. Studies revealed the complex vascular anatomy of the presacral space with highly variable vascular boundaries, contents and computed vessel-free surface area, necessitating careful dissection and exposure of the anterior longitudinal ligament of the sacrum before suture placement to minimize potentially life-threatening vascular complications.

The Alabama Preterm Birth Study: Intrauterine infection and placental histologic findings in preterm births of males and females less than 32 weeksThe Alabama Preterm Birth Study: Intrauterine infection and placental histologic findings in preterm births of males and females less than 32 weeks

Article Abstract:

The Alabama Preterm Birth Study was conducted to evaluate differences in placental histology and infection in preterm male and female fetuses. The study concluded that male infants were more likely to have placental membrane bacterial infection associated with acute placental inflammation, and also were more likely to be born following spontaneous preterm birth, thus the differences between male and female fetuses.

Anatomical path of the tension-free vaginal tape: Reassessing current teachings

Article Abstract:

A study revisits the anatomical path of the tension-free vaginal tape (TVT) needle to better understand its relationship to the perineal membrane and other important anatomic landmarks in the anterior perineal triangle and retropubic space. The assessment suggests that the notion of the TVT perforating the perineal membrane is incorrect.
