Lost and found: twenty per cent of missing people have mental health problems and may not know how to find their way home. NHS staff have more opportunity than most to help them

Article Abstract:

Nurses may not always know the true identity of their patients, as some may give false names and others are too ill or confused to give their name. The National Missing Persons Helpline believes that improved comunications between themselves and NHS organisations would help to find many of the 15,000 people on its database. However the helpline emphasises that a patient's confidentiality is respected, and its Message Home service enables missing people to contact relatives without revealing their whereabouts.

Planning for a pregnant pause

Article Abstract:

The Labour government is rumoured to have agreed to make contraception more accessible to school pupils by allowing school nurses to distribute contraceptives to anyone who wants them, regardless of their age. Nurses believe this direct service will be valuable because adolescents are often unwilling to go to clinics. School nurses in independent schools already give out contraceptives. A nurse who provides this service reports a drop in the pregnancy rate.
