Jobs for the girls

Article Abstract:

UK nurse Gordon Main sued the Ministry of Defence (MoD) when he felt his sex had been used to prevent him being employed as a military nurse in 1996. The Royal College of Nursing (RCN) helped Main take his legal action, on the grounds that an individuals sex should not prevent them from being a health professional, such as a nurse. The MoD claimed nursing women was not a suitable job for a male nurse, as many of the procedures were highly sensitive. Main was eventually offered a job by the Royal Airforce, but he feels his career has been blighted by the action he took.
