MELD scores of liver transplant recipients according to size ofm waiting list: impact of organ allocation and patient outcomes

Article Abstract:

The difference in the Model for Endstage Liver Disease (MELD) scores for liver transplant recipient receiving transplants in small vs large organ procurement organizations (OPOs) is determined. The stated goals of the allocation policy is to distribute livers according to a patient's medical need, which does not happen in reality.

Rates of solid-organ wait-listing transplantation, and survival among residents of rural and urban areas

Article Abstract:

A study to assess the social barriers and waiting time that existed for residents from rural areas particularly minority groups to obtain organ transplants is conducted. Results show that rural residents were less likely to require organ transplants with shorter waiting time compared to urban counterparts.

A 50-year-old man with hepatitis C and Cirrhosis needing liver transplantation, 18 months later

Article Abstract:

Dr. Douglas Hanto discussed the case of Mr. G, a 50-year-old man needing liver transplantation in a clinical crossroads held at medicine grand rounds in march 2003. Mr. G had hepatitis C and cirrhosis and had treated with ribavirin and interferon unsuccessfully.
