MRSA: Learning European lessons

Article Abstract:

A study found low rates of MRSA in countries like Denmark and Netherlands, which they attributed to their very strict application of screening and isolation guidelines and their stringent antibiotic prescribing policies. European and US speakers illustrated how they reduced MRSA through evidence-based approaches to infection control and a set of activities are identified from the workshops as being key to reducing the incidence of MRSA bloodstream infections.

The NHS smoking ban takes away people's right to choose

Article Abstract:

The UK government white paper `Choosing Health' recommended that all workplaces be smoke-free, and for the NHS, this policy is to be fully implemented by the end of 2006. However, this concept restricts individual's right to choose and it is feared that this dictatorship will not deter people from smoking, but might deter them from visiting hospitals.
