Macular degeneration: Advances in treatment

Article Abstract:

Treatments such as photocoagulation, photodynamic therapy (PDT) and Triamcinolone (Kenalog) are offering promise for age-related macular degeneration, which is a leading cause of severe vision loss in older adults. High-dose vitamin and mineral supplements are found to slow the progression of dry macular degeneration and drugs like Anecortave acetate (Retaane), are being evaluated in clinical trials to see if it can slow down the progression of dry macular degeneration to wet macular degeneration.
