Making sense of ... diagnosing and treating endometriosis

Article Abstract:

Endometriosis is a common gynaecological condition where endometrial tissue grows outside the uterine cavity and responds to hormonal changes, causing blood to become trapped, resulting in complications. Blood may collect on the ovaries leading to the formation of endometrial cysts. Most women with endometriosis will suffer severe dysmenorrhoea and a diagnosis is usually confirmed through laporoscopic investigation. Treatment may include surgical intervention or hormone treatment.
