Making sense of sex-linked inheritance

Article Abstract:

Sex-linked inheritance means that some disorders and characteristics can be transmitted by the Y or the X chromosome. There are few traits which are carried by the Y chromosome, but more than 100 gene defects are known to be carried by the X chromosome. Possible ways of treating genetic disorders in the future include germ-line transfer and somatic gene therapy. A nurse's role in counselling families with genetic disorders is mainly providing information to help people to make informed choices. Other questions on genetic defects are answered.
