Management of Fibromyalgia

Article Abstract:

Fibromyalgia is best treated with several different treatments. Fibromyalgia is characterized by pain at specific points on the body called trigger points. The exact cause is not known but abnormalities in the metabolism and function of the neurotransmitters serotonin, norepinephrine, and substance P may be involved. There are no specific drug treatments, but antidepressants that affect serotonin or norepinephrine appear to be most beneficial. The pain-killer tramadol may be useful but anti-inflammatory drugs are not. Growth hormone, tropisetron or ondansetron, 5-hydroxytryptophan, gamma-hydroxybutyrate, and S-adenosyl-L-methionine, are under investigation. Exercise, biofeedback, and electroacupuncture may also be helpful.

Remind me one more time...

Article Abstract:

Recovered memory therapy is based on the unproven hypothesis that children can repress years of sexual abuse, and then later recover these memories in therapy. However, most of the evidence indicates that this hypotheses is flawed and should not be used in court.
