Many questions remain on reforms benefits package

Article Abstract:

The White House Health Professionals Review Group was allowed to review all the Clinton administration's work papers for the new health plan, with the exception of the benefits report. This raised serious questions about what the final benefits package will contain. The reform plan excludes certain services and includes a co-payment for users that is quite different from the benefits plan developed by the American Medical Assn (AMA) Council on Medical Services. The Clinton administration should follow the example of the AMA in developing their plan.

Task force working papers give hint of reform plan

Article Abstract:

White House health care reform team working papers from Apr 1993 indicate a number of general trends in reform of the health care work force, graduate medical education, quality assessment and other issues. For example, the papers indicated a strong bias toward more primary caregivers and an expansion of the role of non-physicians. In addition, the National Health Service Corp should be enlarged to treat more underserved people. Additional policy ideas discussed in the papers are described.

Incremental reform can solve problem of uninsured

Article Abstract:

The poor and uninsured will be left out of the agenda for health care reform as the Republican-dominated Congress takes over the health care reform issue. Therefore, it is up to the American Medical Assn to see to it that the uninsured gets some kind of acknowledgement, and incremental reform may be the answer. Requiring health care plans to include a certain pro bono amount of coverage for the uninsured is one solution.
