Maternal-to-fetal transfer of thyrotropin-releasing hormone in vivo

Article Abstract:

Thyrotropin-releasing hormone (TRH) administered to a pregnant woman rapidly enters the fetal circulation in small amounts and provokes the release of thyroid-stimulating hormone. Researchers gave intravenous TRH to 13 pregnant women and monitored hormonal changes in fetal blood samples. The level of TRH in maternal blood after injection reached maximum within three minutes and peaked in fetal circulation within five minutes, but only accounted for 0.01% of the administered dose. Prenatal administration of TRH may prevent respiratory distress syndrome in newborns.

Fetal membrane healing after spontaneous and iatrogenic membrane rapture: A review of current evidence

Article Abstract:

Fetal membrane plays a very important and protective role during pregnancy and it is of utmost importance that in cases of preterm premature rupture of the membrane, wound sealing, tissue regeneration, or wound healing could prove to be life saving. It forms an adjustable bio-container filled with amniotic fluid that protects the fetus against infection, trauma and toxins, and also provides the fetus with limited space to move about.

Comparative study of perinatal outcome of dichorionic and trichorionic iatrogenic triplets

Article Abstract:

A study to compare the prenatal outcome of dichrionic and trichrionic triplets that were conceived by assisted reproductive techniques was conducted. The results revealed that the dichrionic triplets have an 8 times higher perinatal mortality rate than trichrionic triamniotic pregnancies.
