Maximizing resources: a microanalysis assessment tool

Article Abstract:

A microanalysis assessment tool can be used to maximize the efficiency of resource utilization in a health-care organization. The microanalysis assessment tool includes a demographic profile and assessments of workforce pattern, activity pattern, and budgetary pattern. The demographic profile focuses on patient population, resource needs, department goals, strengths and problems. Workforce pattern concerns human resource utilization. Activity pattern is related to day-to-day operations. The budgetary pattern concerns use of fiscal resources. Strategies are suggested for each area.

Clinical pathways: benefits and liabilities

Article Abstract:

Clinical paths can help avoid malpractice litigation. Most medical malpractice litigation comes from patients who feel they were not properly treated, so communication between nurses and patients is crucial. Clinical paths can strengthen coordination between many caregivers. Medical charts are often key evidence in medical malpractice since they document how a clinical path was followed. Clinical paths only serve as guidelines, while nurses should use sound judgment to meet individual patient needs.
