Meconium-stained liquor during labor is associated with raised neonatal cord blood 8-iso-prostaglandin F2-alpha concentration

Article Abstract:

The study compares the umbilical arterial 8-iso-prostaglandin F2-alpha, concentrations between pregnancies that were complicated by moderate or thick meconium stained liquor and those with clear liquor. Moderate of thick meconium-stained liquor is an independent factor for increased oxidative stress in pregnancy.

Differences in outcomes after third-versus fourth degree perineal laceration repair: A prospective study

Article Abstract:

The comparison of the outcomes after third- versus fourth-degree laceration repair is presented. Bowel symptoms were found to be more common after fourth degree repair and might be secondary to higher rates of combined defects of the internal anal sphincter (IAS) and external anal sphincter (ESA).

Shunting the intervillous space: New concepts in human uteroplacental vascularization

Article Abstract:

An argument on a functional vascular anastomotic network located in the placental bed during human pregnancy is provided. The studies yielded functional and anatomic evidence of an arteriovenuous shunt located in the subplacental myometrium.
