Medical treatment of peripheral arterial disease

Article Abstract:

A study is carried out to review the best evidence for medical treatment of peripheral arterial disease (PAD). It is concluded that the substantial and increasing burden of PAD, and its local and systematic complications, can be reduced by lifestyle modification (smoking cessation, exercise) and medical therapies (nicotine replacement therapy, bupropion, antihypertensive drugs, statins, and antiplatelet drugs).

Does the clinical examination predict lower extremity peripheral arterial disease?

Article Abstract:

The study is carried out to systematically review the accuracy and precision of the clinical examination for peripheral arterial disease (PAD). It is observed that clinical examination findings are not independently sufficient to include or exclude a diagnosis of PAD with certainty while the PAD screening score using the hand-held Doppler has the greatest diagnostic accuracy.

Group launches peripheral arterial disease guidelines

Article Abstract:

The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology issued guidelines for more timely diagnosis for patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). These guidelines help the clinicians to determine when to take vascular histories and perform physical examinations to detect PAD and also to remind them which patients are at a risk for lower extremity PAD.
