Medicine in defense against biological warfare

Article Abstract:

The United States addresses the threat of biological warfare in terms of defense against such weapons. The US Army's Biological Defense Research Program places emphasis on the protection of personnel before exposure; this research is focussed on the protection of military personnel but the information obtained is shared with civilian agencies. It is maintained that the defensive focus of this research is in accord with the Biological Weapons Convention and its goal of eradicating biological warfare.

Antarctic Medicine

Article Abstract:

Medical studies of people who conduct research in Antarctica may be beneficial for the space program. Many of the scientists at the 37 winter stations operated by 18 nations live and work in comparative isolation from their families and friends for long periods of time. Doctors have found that there is no illness specific to Antarctic living. Accidents and trauma are the most common health concerns. Most of the nations present on the continent share research data.
