Meeting the psychosocial challenges of leg ulceration

Article Abstract:

A study of 37 patients focused on the lengthy healing time associated with venous ulcers revealed that though healing usually had positive connotations, the chronicity of the healing process in cases of venous ulcers changes the nature of healing experience, limits mobility and normal activities including work, due to pain, treatment, and changes to body image. Healthcare professionals should basically recognize that patients with chronic wounds have psychological problems and should be able to identify the most effective strategies to improve the psychological health of such patients.
