Men behaving badly: despite making up a fraction of the workforce, a disproportionately high number of male nurses face conduct hearings

Article Abstract:

A high number of male nurses face conduct hearings according to a UKCC leader, despite making up just 9% of the nursing workforce. Incidents reported to the Preliminary Proceedings Committee (PPC) in the year to March 1995, showed that 28% of complaints were from nursing homes, and the Professional Conduct Committee (PCC) found that 36% of cases involved nursing homes. There is a need to consider whether nurses, particularly men are properly prepared for certain situations.
