Metabolic and inflammatory responses after laparoscopic and abdominal hysterectomy

Article Abstract:

Laparoscopic hysterectomy appears to be less stressful than traditional abdominal hysterectomy. Researchers measured blood levels of several chemicals involved in stress in 44 pregnant women who were randomly assigned to have a laparoscopic or an abdominal hysterectomy. The women in the laparoscopic hysterectomy group needed less morphine for pain, had shorter hospital stays and had lower blood levels of stress chemicals, including interleukin-6, C-reactive protein, cortisol and norepinephrine.

Laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy

Article Abstract:

The literature regarding laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy is reviewed and the evidence regarding the proposed risks and benefits of the procedure is evaluated. It is suggested that laparoscopic supracervical hysterectomy results in reduced operating time and blood loss and a quicker return to normal activity, compared with laparoscopic-assisted vaginal hysterectomy.
