Mild intraoperative hypothermia during surgery for intracranial aneurysm

Article Abstract:

A randomized trial was conducted to determine whether intraoperative cooling during open craniotomy would improve the outcome among patients with acute aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage. The results indicated that intraoperative hypothermia did not improve the neurologic outcome after craniotomy among good-grade patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage.

Depth-of-anesthesia monitor and the frequency of intraoperative awareness

Article Abstract:

The bispectral index system (BIS) is a device that monitors the depth of anesthesia and offers the prospect of reducing anesthesia awareness. A study of 1941 patients at high risk for awareness was conducted by adding a BIS-guided protocol to a standard protocol, but the results showed no reduction in the frequency of definite or possible awareness.
