Singlet oxygen microscope: From phase-separated polymers to single biological cells

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to demonstrate that by using a variety of tools and methods singlet oxygen can be optically detected with high spatial resolution from a range of phase-separated, heterogeneous samples including single biological cells. The data obtained is used to construct singlet oxygen images of the samples at a resolution that is significant for the study of many chemical and biological processes.

Codeine intoxication associated with ultrarapid CYP2D6 metabolism

Article Abstract:

A case study of a patient who developed life-threatening opioid intoxication after he was given small doses of codeine for the treatment of a cough associated with bilateral pneumonia is presented. CYP2D6 genotyping showed that the patient had three or more functional alleles, a finding consistent with ultrarapid metabolism of codeine.

Attachment chemistry of organic molecules on Si(111)-7 X 7

Article Abstract:

An attempt is made to demonstrate that organic functionalities can be chemically attached onto Si(111)-7 X 7 through various reactions. The recent progress and current understanding of reactivity, selectively and mechanisms or organic molecules on Si(111)-7 X 7 is reviewed.
