Miracle worker

Article Abstract:

Nurse Rita Melifonwu implemented nursing practice based on evidence on a ward which had a high rate of sickness, errors, and complaints. Melifonwu became ward sister on an acute medical ward in Enfield, England, in Oct 1997. The ward relied heavily on agency staff, the sister's post had been unfilled, student placements had stopped, and staff morale was low. Melifonwu immediately introduced systems to improve general nursing practice, and set up a system which involved each nurse acting as a link nurse, researching and introducing evidence-based practice for a designated medical area.
