Misconduct trouble brewing in Gottingen

Article Abstract:

The use of cancer vaccine against renal cell carcinoma has become the subject of a scientific misconduct investigation in the university of Gottingen, Germany. It was evident that hybrid cells with dendritic cells cause complete tumor remission following subcutaneous injection in 4 of 17 patients suffering from human metastatic renal cell carcinoma, and also resulted in 2 partial remissions and 1 mixed response.

A Nobel for Blobel

Article Abstract:

Rockefeller University professor Gunter Blobel won the 1999 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work on how proteins are transported to various organelles once they are synthesized. He proposed that the first 20 or so amino acids of the protein attach to a receptor on the appropriate organelle and create a pore through which the protein enters the cell.

UCSF whistle-Blower alleges gender discrimination

Article Abstract:

Biomathematician Sally Blower will leave the University of California-San Francisco School of Medicine amid allegations that she was discriminated against. She did not bring formal charges against the school but circulated her complaints in an e-mail to colleagues. She said she was never given a permanent workspace and was paid solely with grant money.
