Modern science versus the stigma of obesity

Article Abstract:

A precise and powerful biologic system maintains body weight as per scientific evidences. Obesity and metabolic syndrome are believed to be diseases of the 21st century and research in this area is considered to be very dynamic as it is in nexus with other areas of science like genetics and biochemistry.

Src deficiency or blockade of Src activity in mice provides cerebral protection following stroke

Article Abstract:

The pathophysiology of cerebral ischemia appears to be regulated by Src kinase where it influences vascular endothelial growth factor-mediated vascular permeability, thus helping repair neuronal damage following stroke. Suppression of Src activity appears to minimize brain injury.

Targeting acute ischemic stroke with a calcium-sensitive opener of maxi-K potassium channels

Article Abstract:

Research presented concerns the biochemistry of ischemic strokes, focusing on how high levels of intracellular calcium poses a risk to neurons. The benefits of a neuroprotective therapy that uses maxi-K potassium channels to regulate intracellular calcium are addressed.
