Mycobacterium tuberculosis infection in health care workers in rural India

Article Abstract:

A study is conducted to estimate latent tuberculosis infection prevalence in health care workers using the tuberculin skin (TST) and a whole-blood interferon gamma (IFN-gamma) assay, to determine agreement between the tests and to compare their correlation with risk factors. The results revealed high latent tuberculosis infection prevalence in Indian health care workers, high agreement between TST and IFN-gamma and similar association between positive test results and risk factors.

Potential health and economic consequences of misplaced priorities

Article Abstract:

The importance of reordering priorities are illustrated by providing examples from some areas of practice and policy, such as choosing effective services, delivering care, preventing disease and fostering social change. The healthcare leaders, officials and the public they serve should adapt the concept that lives are lost by disproportion and should try to resolve and improve the outcomes.
