NHLBI's new head: "Unprecedented" chance of advance science to clinic

Article Abstract:

Elizabeth G. Nabel, new director of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) plans to add new approaches by promoting biomedical research as well as new interventions and therapeutics that can benefit patients and public health. She plans to focus on four points that include stimulating the causes of disease, interest in speeding the translation of basic science discoveries to clinical applications, and priority centers on improving interdisciplinary research.

Claude Lenfant, MD: retiring NHLBI director looks ahead

Article Abstract:

The retiring director of the US National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute discusses his future plans. Claude Lenfant became the institute's director in 1982 after a dozen years at the National Institutes of Health. Before that, he was on the faculty of the University of Washington School of Medicine. He has been elected president of the World Hypertension League.

Nora Volkow, MD: NIDA's new leader

Article Abstract:

Nora Volkow has been appointed director of the National Institute on Drug Abuse. Formerly with the Brookhaven National Laboratory, she has studied drug addiction since she did her psychiatry residency at New York University in 1984. She wants particularly to focus on addiction in children and teenagers.
