"NICE's decision on dementia drugs places nurses in a difficult position"

Article Abstract:

NICE recommended that drugs for Alzheimer's should only be used when people deteriorate sufficiently on the mini mental state examination (MMSE) memory test and also that Ebixa, for people with severe dementia should not be prescribed at all despite the quality of life these drugs bring to carers as well as patients. Several appeals were made against NICE's decision but its determination not to change recommendations restricting the prescribing of dementia drugs will devastate the lives of patients and cause problems for carers.
