NSAIDs and cancer prevention: Targets downstream of COX-2

Article Abstract:

Preclinical and clinical studies have demonstrated a benefit of non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) use in reducing cancer risk. However, it is seen that the adverse gastrointestinal and cardiovascular side effects associated with NSAIDs and cyclooxygenase-2 selective inhibitors have incited further scrutiny of the precise role of specific downstream mediators in the prostaglandin (PG) signaling cascade.

Therapeutic approaches to preserve islet mass in type 2 diabetes

Article Abstract:

A research is conducted on restoring the beta-cell mass that is typically lost during the natural progression of type 2 diabetes. Results show that GLP-IR agonists and related peptides such as GIP help in restoring the beta-cell mass in patients with type 2 diabetes, but it has to be seen whether the same will produce a sustained improvement in beta-cell function.
