Nations for Mental Health

Article Abstract:

The World Health Organization established a special program called Nations for Mental Health to consider needs of persons with mental and neurological illnesses not covered by current health care services. The program will alert the public and policy-makers on the issues involved. Demential is expected to soar to 80 million cases in a few decades. Mental retardation will affect 100 million people. Depression is expected to affect as many as 340 million people.

Article Abstract:

Reducing the vulnerability of cities to natural disasters and war-related emergencies is a vital part of emergency preparation. The World Health Organization helped to organize a cultural, health and job-training program in Split, Croatia, in the 1990s to lessen the effects of the war in Bosnia.
