Neonatal pulmonary hypoplasia and perinatal mortality in patients with midtrimester rupture of amniotic membranes -- a critical analysis

Article Abstract:

The gestational age of the baby, the latency period, and the amniotic fluid index all determine the risk of lung disease and death in babies born following premature rupture of membranes. In a study of 163 women with membrane rupture between 15 and 28 weeks, 13% of the babies developed lung disease and 54% died.

Haplogroup-associated differences in neonatal death and incidence of low birth weight at elevation: a preliminary assessment

Article Abstract:

Genetic differences in mitochondrial DNA can increase the risk of miscarriage, fetal death, low birth weight, and neonatal death. This was the conclusion of a genetic study of 62 pregnant Peruvian women. Mitochondrial DNA codes for enzymes that metabolize oxygen.

Intrapartum management of nonvertex second-born twins: a critical analysis

Article Abstract:

A breech twin baby can be delivered vaginally once the first twin is delivered, according to a study of 141 women with a twin pregnancy. In a breech pregnancy, the baby comes out feet first rather than head first.
