Neuromedin U has a novel anorexigenic effect independent of the leptin signaling pathway

Article Abstract:

Neuromedin U (NMU) is a hypothalamic neuropeptide that regulates body weight and composition. An experiment shows that mice lacking the gene encoding NMU develop obesity. The results indicate that NMU plays an important role in the regulation of feeding behavior and energy metabolism independent of the leptin signaling pathway.

Sensitive cilia set up the kidney

Article Abstract:

Mouse knockout experiments have helped in finding out cilia's role in guiding the organ into right shape and also in regulating food intake. The studies have highlighted on the pathogenesis of autosomal dominant polycystic kidney disease (ADPKD) that results in renal failure.

Upregulation of RGS7 may contribute to tumor necrosis factor-induced changes in central nervous function

Article Abstract:

Tumor necrosis factor prevents the degradation of the RGS7 protein, one of the components of the G protein complex. This could explain how sepsis affects the nervous system, causing fever, lethargy, and anorexia.
