New drugs from the rain forests

Article Abstract:

Interest is growing in tropical rain-forest plants as sources of new drugs and more effective or less toxic replacements for existing drugs. As interest in plant-derived drug development grows, so too must cooperation between the scientists and institutions of developing and industrial countries.

Think - before using drugs!

Article Abstract:

The overuse of pharmaceutical drugs is a large problem in France, and it causes health insurance payments to increase 10-12% each year. The French government has launched a media campaign to promote the moderate use of pharmaceutical drugs.

Regulatory control and the rational use of drugs

Drug control treaties have been enacted to control the use of drugs that are both therapeutic and addictive. Among these are the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, 1961 and the Convention on Pyschotropic Substances, 1971.
