New fire safety regime

Article Abstract:

The UK Fire Precaution (Workplace) Regulations 1997 specifies employers should have adequate measures in place to alert their employees about a fire. They should also have plans to evacuate the building and fire fighting equipment, such as fire extinguishing appliances. The regulations extends the role of the employers who become responsible for fire risks in their workplace. In all places of employment the employer and a nominated person must oversee plans to prevent fires and to protect workers, in the event of a fire. Some workplaces will already be covered by a fire certificate.
