New laws on dangerous loads

Article Abstract:

New regulations covering road freight transport of hazardous substances come into effect in Jun 1992, with the road tanker regulations, or Dangerous Substances Regulations, 1981, being the most affected. The packaged goods regulations, or Road Traffic Regulations 1986, are also being extended, and new EC training arrangements for drivers of hazardous loads will be in force from Jul 1 1992. The UK Dept of Transport will be involved in approval of training schools which will offer courses for City and Guilds qualifications for drivers of hazardous substances.

Dangerous schools survey

Article Abstract:

Many schools in England and Wales are in a bad state of repair, according to a survey of almost 6,500 schools by the National Union of Teachers. Over a quarter of the schools had to close part of their buildings because they were in such a bad and dangerous condition. The existence of asbestos had caused closures in one in 10 schools.
